common mistakes on Web site promotion
Website promotion errors that are lowering the sites ranking by the search engine:
You can find many advices on the web that are designated for the starting website developer, those advices describe what it to be done to promote your website ranking. Purpose of tips given here is opposite, these tips warn the developer from mistakes he might do while building his site:
No original content
Use of copyright protected material without permission is not a valid act, and can lead to a prosecution and banishment of the site from search engines. This point is the most important one in promoting websites and in the internet and should be given a special attention. Distribution of keywords - Although it is significant to use important keywords from time to time but be careful not over-use certain words, if search engines suspect the text is forced they will lower the ranking of the site. We also have to choose a limited amount of words or phrases used as keywords, search engines may ignore all together if there is an over-use.
Using errors
Sometimes a web designer will include misspellings and language games in an attempt to highlight the content of the site. Although such use can promote the site but know that search engines do not encourage the use of these errors, so you may want to avoid that. Links and out bounded links - Search engines do not like to trade links. If the number of in bounded links is too high it will be the subject of a suspicion, and ranking of the site will go down. A large number of out bounded links are also not recommended because it is considered as junk as well as trading.
Concatenation links
This is another form of trading links. Concatenation is when a group of sites is giving an out bounded link to a friend, the friend is giving one to a colleague, the colleague to an associate... and so on until returns to the first site.
"Punished" links
You do not want to refer a surfer to sites that where punished by the search engines. Such referral can endorse much damage so we recommend that before giving out bounded link, you examine the nature of the site.
Non-visible links
Adding links that are not visible (because of color or font size) is perceived by the search engines as a camouflage. It is not recommended because of the risk that Google or Yahoo will find it. Hidden content - Adding content that is not visible to surfers but only to spiders, or hiding a content that is designated for spiders in a content that is visible to the surfers is prohibited! It is likely that the spiders will catch on to it.
References
There are 3 ways of directing sites and pages: tag "refresh", reference 302 which is a temporary reference, and a permanent reference 301. The first two methods are not recommended and can cause damage to the site, a permanent reference is the best solution to promote the site.
Enlarging the site by content replication
Copying identical contents (or slightly different) to other pages in the same site in order to increase it, not only will not promote the site but will probably lower it's ranking. Worth investing a little more in creating an original content that will enlarge the site.
Session Identifier
This application attaches a number to every URL address and to every page each time you visit the site, the number is renewed with each visit. Spider can identify each page as a new one also on the second and third visit to the site, and pass the same content over and over again to the search engines. Naturally the search engines do not like duplicate content and therefore won't use this application.
Dynamic IP address
It is recommended to use permanent address and not a dynamic one for every site. Replacing the address from time to time as done with dynamic addresses can create a duplication of content in the eyes of search engines and lower the site's ranking.
Flash Format
This is a format that adds visual elements to the site. Spiders do not know how to read this format, so they ignore what is displayed in all Flash files. If the site's designer prefer to use this software then you should add a text in a different format, one the spider can read.
Using frames
These pages are located inside other pages- "hosting" pages, and have a separate existence from the "host". Not recommended to use frames because spiders can't enter the inner page and add the contents to the search engine.
Site in downtime
Website that is in downtime for large periods of time is inaccessible to the spiders and it's content will not pass to the search engines, so you should care for normal activities of the server (before the purchase and upgrading it after the purchase).
The main problem which can occur on a website is a duplication of its contents in the eyes of search engines. Duplication can lead to a reduction of the site's ranking and thus achieve the opposite goal for which it was established. The list above contains what causes duplications, you should really avoid it in advance so you will be able to promote the site properly. Happy Promotion!
